Our Story
Our Story
In 1991, Perry and Nancy Worthen were tired of overpaying for health food and supplements. Most stores around them overcharged for basic organic items, so they became part of a co-op to save money. Inspired by a retailing class Perry took in college, they decided to take a leap and open a humble 600-square-foot store in the small town of Gladewater, Texas. They kept their prices low and reinvested every single dollar for the first three years to make sure the store would be self-sufficient.
Since opening our doors in 1991, Granary Health Foods has grown from that single, small storefront into a family of 8 locations—but our foundational mission remains exactly the same. We are dedicated to providing high-quality, natural, and organic foods, as well as vitamins and supplements, at an affordable price. Our enduring desire is to couple quality products with exceptional service at every one of our stores, giving the best possible experience to all of our customers.
